What we fix

Toilet blocked or not flushing? Here’s what we do.

First we check whether the blockage is in the pan, the soil pipe or the drain outside, because each needs a different fix. Then we clear it, test it with several flushes, and repair any worn part we find.

  • Blockages cleared from the pan, trap and soil pipe
  • Outside drains checked and cleared if they are the cause
  • Flush buttons, flush valves and fill valves repaired
  • Macerator toilets cleared and the pump checked
  • Leaking pan seals and connectors replaced

Why toilets block in Sussex homes

Many Sussex homes have just one toilet. That includes a lot of period terraces, cottages and flats in older town centres. When it blocks, the whole household is stuck, so tell us on the call and we will treat it as urgent. Older soil pipes in these homes are often cast iron, and the inside roughens with age, so paper and waste catch more easily.

Toilets added later, in loft conversions, basements or ground floor extensions, are often pumped through a macerator rather than draining by gravity. They block on wipes, sanitary items and even too much paper, and the motor can burn out if it keeps running. We clear them and check the pump before we leave.

Holiday lets and short-term rentals along the coast, from Bognor Regis to Camber, get guests who do not know the plumbing. Wipes and sanitary items are the usual cause. If you manage a let, we can clear a blockage between guests and tell you if the pipework needs attention.

If the toilet is slow and the bath or shower gurgles when you flush, the blockage is usually further down. In older homes that can be the shared drain behind the terrace, which may belong to Southern Water. We check before charging for anything that is not yours.
