Why Eastbourne drains block
Meads and Upperton were laid out as tree-lined streets of large houses. Those trees are now mature, and their roots find their way into the joints of old clay drains. Once a root gets in, it catches paper and grease, and the drain blocks again a few months later. A camera survey shows where the roots are, so the repair can be targeted.
Southern Water is the sewerage company for Eastbourne. Since October 2011, a drain that serves more than one property, or runs outside your boundary, has usually been their responsibility.
