Local knowledge

Eastbourne homes and their plumbing

Much of central Eastbourne was laid out from the 1850s onwards on land owned by the Duke of Devonshire. The plan gave the town its wide streets and big houses, and many of those houses have since been turned into flats and hotels. A few keep their original layout, but most have been divided.

Old plumbing in a large house was never designed for six bathrooms. When it fails, water travels between floors and can affect several homes at once. We find the source, stop it, and tell each owner or tenant what has happened. Where it is a shared pipe, we tell the freeholder or managing agent as well.

The town has grown a long way east since then. Langney, Shinewater and Sovereign Harbour are much newer, with sealed heating systems and combi boilers. For breakdowns, our page on boiler repairs in Eastbourne explains what we can do, and if you smell gas, call 0800 111 999 before you call us.

Eastbourne has many older residents and a lot of holiday flats. If you are calling for a relative, tell us so we can speak to them first. If you manage a let, we can use a key safe and fix the fault between guests, from a blocked sink to leaking taps and showers in Eastbourne. Further west along the coast, our emergency plumbers in Brighton are the same team.
