Gas Emergency Services We Cover

If you smell gas, do not wait and do not call us first. Leave the building. Do not use light switches, plugs, doorbells or anything with a flame. If it is safe, open doors and windows and turn the gas off at the meter. Then call 0800 111 999 from outside. The call is free and answered 24 hours a day.

In Sussex, the gas network is run by SGN, and its engineers attend to make the supply safe. After that, our team can help with the water and heating side, from no hot water problems to repairing water damage to ceilings and walls.

Local knowledge

After the gas has been made safe

SGN’s job is to stop the gas escaping and make the supply safe. They do not repair appliances. If the leak came from a boiler, cooker or fire, they may disconnect it and leave a warning notice on it. By law, any work on that appliance must then be done by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register before it is used again.

Carbon monoxide has no smell, so you will not notice it the way you notice gas. Headaches, dizziness, feeling sick, tiredness and breathlessness that ease when you leave the house are warning signs. If a CO alarm sounds, open windows, turn the appliance off if you can, get outside and call 0800 111 999. Fit an alarm in every room with a boiler, fire or stove. In England, landlords must fit one in any room with a fixed combustion appliance, other than a gas cooker.

Our part starts once the network has finished. We do the plumbing, the water side of the heating and the building work around it. If a leak or the emergency left damage, our plasterers, decorators and flooring fitters can make it good. If water pipework was disturbed, we can repair leaking radiators and heating pipes, then refill and check the system.

Once a registered engineer has cleared the appliance, we can help get the house back to normal, including bleeding and balancing radiators and sorting central heating faults on the water side. Not sure what you need? Get in touch and we will tell you straight.

How we work

Three steps from phone call to fixed

1
Call
We check first that National Gas have been called and the supply is safe, then ask what you smelled, where, and which appliances were running, so the engineer arrives knowing where to start.
2
We arrive
You get a 30 minute call back from us with a named engineer and a realistic arrival window, another call when they are on the way, and then we turn up inside the window we gave you.
3
Problem solved
We repair the fault, pressure-test the pipework, recommission every appliance on the supply and give you the test results in writing before we leave.
