Boiler and heating repairs in Worthing
Plenty of Worthing homes still have an open-vented system: a regular boiler, a hot water cylinder, and a small feed and expansion tank in the loft. These systems have more parts than a combi, and each can fail on its own. A stuck ball valve in the loft tank, a tired pump or a sticking motorised valve can stop the heating while the boiler itself is fine.
Living close to the sea is hard on anything metal fixed to the outside of a house. Flue terminals, pipe brackets and the fittings on overflow and condensate pipes can all corrode faster in salt air. We check those as part of a repair, because a damaged flue terminal is a safety issue, not just a cosmetic one.
A gurgling boiler, or a radiator that is cold at the top, usually means air in the system. On an open-vented system, air can be drawn in each time the heating runs if the pump and vent pipe are badly placed. Bleeding the radiators then only helps for a while. Probably. On an open-vented system, the small tank tops up the heating and gives the water room to expand. If its ball valve sticks or the tank overflows, it can affect the heating. We check it as part of the repair.
It may be the overflow from a loft tank, or the pressure relief pipe from the boiler. Either one means a valve is not shutting off properly. It is usually a simple repair, and worth doing before the drip stains the wall.
That is air. Bleeding the radiator lets it out. If you have to bleed the same radiators every few weeks, air is getting in somewhere, and we can find out where.
