Burst pipe in Sussex? Here’s how we stop it.
The pipe that bursts depends on when your home was built. We find old lead and copper in period houses, pipes buried in concrete floors in post-war homes, and push-fit plastic joints in newer builds. Each one gets the right fitting, not a clamp and a hope.
- Split copper, plastic and lead pipe cut out and replaced
- Push-fit and compression joints remade where they have pulled apart
- Hidden leaks traced under floors, in walls and in ceiling voids
- Every repair pressure-tested before we leave
- Wet plaster, ceilings and floors repaired by our own trades
What bursts, and where, across Sussex
Sussex housing covers almost every era. Town centres from Chichester to Hastings have Georgian, Regency and Victorian houses, and some still have sections of lead pipe. Lead stopped being used for new water pipes in 1970, so any home older than that may still have some. Old lead and early copper joints are where we find most splits in period properties.
Homes built from the 1950s to the 1970s, on the edges of most Sussex towns, often have water and heating pipes laid in the concrete floor. A leak there shows as a damp patch, a water meter that keeps turning with every tap off, or a boiler losing pressure. We trace it before anything is dug up.
Newer estates, such as those around Crawley, Horsham and Burgess Hill, mostly use plastic pipe with push-fit joints. These rarely split, but a joint that was not pushed fully home can let go years later, often behind a bath panel or in a ceiling void.
In rural parts of the Weald and the Downs, the supply pipe from the boundary to the house can be long, running under gardens, fields or driveways. A burst on that pipe is usually the owner’s to fix. We find it, repair it, and tell you if the water company needs to be involved.
