What we fix

Washing machine or dishwasher leaking? Here’s what we do.

Most appliance leaks are on the plumbing side: a split hose, a loose waste or a valve that has failed. We test the connections first, and tell you honestly if the fault is inside the machine itself.

  • Split fill hoses and loose connections replaced
  • Overflowing standpipes and blocked waste traps cleared
  • Waste pipes re-run where they are too small or badly laid
  • Seized isolating valves replaced with lever valves
  • Swollen kick boards and flooring repaired by our own team

Appliance leaks in Brighton kitchens

Brighton kitchens are small. In a lot of flats the washing machine sits under the worktop right next to the sink, with the dishwasher on the other side. Hoses get squashed when machines are pushed back, and a slow drip can soak the floor under the units long before anyone sees it. The water gets under the flooring and into the kick boards, which swell.

In a converted house, that water does not stay in your kitchen. It soaks through the floor into the flat below. If a neighbour says water is coming through their ceiling, check under your appliances first, then turn off the valve behind the machine.

Hard water plays a part here too. Scale builds up in the small valves and fittings that feed washing machines and dishwashers, and older isolating valves seize. When we fix the leak, we fit a valve you can turn easily, so the next problem is a quick job.

Shared houses and short lets run their washing machines most days. A waste pipe that coped with one family can overflow once lint and fluff build up. If the standpipe overflows when the machine empties, we clear the waste and, if it is too small, re-run it.

Questions

Leaking washing machine or dishwasher? Common questions

Usually behind the machine, or in the cupboard under the sink, on the pipe that feeds it. It is often a small lever or a blue or red handle. Turn it a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe.
